Story Excerpt

The Rumors are False

What met her gave her reason to pause.

A young man with raven hair secured at the nape of his neck in robes so heavily embroidered, they appear like brocade. He is unarmed, except for his magic. He channels it into a scrying circle that hangs over his hand, now dark with disuse. The entrance is strange and she frowns at the emblem fastened over his shoulder. Kyan. A land to the furthest north and east that honors a treaty of nonviolence and trade with her daughter’s land to the far west. He is ally, though she does not know him. Only of him. And what she has heard appears wrong.

He is older than she expects, well past his first millennium. When explained he was youngest of the leaders, she had expected a mage of three centuries with little power. He holds power casually, with ease of use and familiar with its bounds. In this, he is stronger than Lilita. What’s more is he has the gall to examine her as openly as she does him. She has heard of his deference, yet she finds little evidence to support this.

Who and What Inspired the Lord of Time

Kyan was my first attempts at foiling my favorite imagining of the time; Syria. As such, his creation was not so much inspired as it was necessary. I required some force for her to contend with that would challenge her in some fashion.

Long after Kyan had served his intended purpose, the character persisted and began to develop a history and motivations.

Physical shadow is that of Yunho from TVXQ/DBSK until I determine a more suitable model.
